Week-end 12th and 13th of April 2008 |
Last weekend I did two "Kermisraces" in Belgium. The first one in Evergem near Gent saw 137 riders on the start (a heavy bunch for such a race) and I could practice attacks all during the 83 km race. Emma Jones from Swift racing team managed to get away in the second lap and won the race. After some attemppts to get into a break-away I finished 15th of the sprint for third place. The next day, there were "only" 67 riders to start in Roux-Miroir (in Wallonie, the french speaking part of Belgium) for a hillier race over 99 km. After some stomach problems before start and during the first three laps, I tried to be active again and get into some breaks, but nothing serious developed until the three last laps, when a group of six riders broke away. | They were joined by another rider from the Vlaanderen squad. I was too far back in the bunch, when the group got away, but tried to join it with the help of Catherine Delfosse from the Lotto-Bellisol squad. We managed to get close to 8 seconds, but didn't join the break and were caught back at the end of the second last lap. At this moment I sat back in the bunch to rest a little bit and went back in front for the final sprint. I finished this sprint at the 6th position in the bunch and 13th overall. All in all a satisfying preparation for the next races, especiallyfor the first ever UCI womens race in Luxemburg on the 26th of April, the "Grand Prix Elsy Jacobs" in Garnich. Cheers | | | |
