Logic Result
The rain that drenched the ground durin the last weeks and it made the technical mountainbike-likely track even more tricky and unrideable over large parts, so that some riders preferred not to start. My preparation hadn’t been the best in the last month and a bacteriologic infection against which I have to take antibiotica did not improve my condition. It wouldn’t have changed the result, just improved my time I guess…
Looking at the results from winner Christine Majerus (GSD Gestion) I knew it was mission impossible to beat her. The question was who would take places 2 and 3, but a few days before the race, Nathalie Lamborelle decided not to start, since she didn’t get around with the course and didn’t want to take risks for her road-season. It became clear I would make 2 as the only other girl on the start, Alessia Merten, is not yet in condition to beat me.
The track was very muddy, slippery and tricky because of the roots of trees hidden under the chocolate brown mess. I didn’t have that many difficulties to cope with it, but the running parts were awful. It was a cross without the cyclo…..
Majerus took a very quick start on the uphill on the road and after half a lap, positions were already clear for podium, so I took no risks, just controlled my advance on the 3rd and tried to catch back some boys started 2’ before us. The lap was so slow (very much on the contrary to when it’s dry, the lap then is a very fast one) that we only had 3 laps to do! At half-race, a heavy rain-shower went down, and I just longed to finish and have a warm shower. As you can see on the pictures, the conditions were really nasty and I think you agree with me, that anyone who finished in that mess merits a medal! I’m satisfied with my race (having the double age of the winner, 50 against 25!) and hope to continue cross until the sluitingsprijs in Oostmalle in February.
A great thank goes to my mechanics Marc and Fränz and to the guys from LC Tétange (Marco and Mario) who cleaned my bike every half lap.
See you
