Last race of the season in Luxemburg
Sunny and dry weather conditions made the course very fast and it was a nice change to the « mud-parties » of the last weeks. Normally you wouldn’t even need a spare bike, but well, you’ll see…
For once I had a good start and stayed with the boys. After the first downhill, I was blocked by a debutant struggling with his bike and lost some positions, but on the steps in the uphill, where some boys had to run I managed to ride and regained two positions.
Everything was fine , I was 4th in « debutants »-category until I had passed the pits in lap 3… Suddenly my left foot felt so « wobbly » and while I wondered what it could be, I heard a metallic noise on the asphalt, slipped off my pedal and noticed that only the shaft of my crank-brothers egg-beater pedal was left …
It was hard to keep my foot on the turning shaft on the flat, and impossible in the uphills… My advantage on the two other female riders was already more than half a lap, but some boys took advantage of my mechnical problem and doubled me, while I tried to join the pits as fast as I could.
After bike-change I struggled to get back to my position, but it would only be enough for place 6 with the debutants. I arrived same time as the 5th ; 15 year old Cédric Godart won the sprint against 50 year old Suzie Godart.
I really enjoyed this race and I hope I’ll have some more nice competitions abroad in the next weeks.
Cheers
Suzie
