Grand Prix Elsy Jacobs Mai 1st 2009

A very important race for the team FENIXS for two main reasons; firstly it was the first international race for Buba after a stop of two years and secondly, the team won last years edition in the person of Monia Bacaille and we really wanted to repeat that success.

The very hilly lap of 10km was to overcome ten times, it was very hard and I can’t say it was my favourite, but nevertheless I was in the first part of the bunch in the first ascent of the “Réibierg”. I witnessed the first attack (which was actually the decisive one) and when Regina Schleicher from Nürnberger countered, I followed her with a rider from team Lotto in my wheel.

We were caught back unfortunatly because neither of us had the strength to go on by ourselves. This counter was fatal for me in the second lap; I dropped out of the main bunch in the second climb. The amplitude of the bunch had already diminished quite a lot after the very rapid start and first lap, and splitted into various little groups. The group I found myself back in formed right behind the bunch and I can’t say that there was any constructive work going on there, so we were stopped after 7 laps.

No luck for me, but Bubas victory was a great consolation gift. She even dedicated her brilliant race (she was in the attack group during all the race and won after a stunning sprint) to my daughter Trixy, who turned 20 that very day.
